Sex Toys & Sex
Lubes
While there are some sex toys that can safely be used
without lube, picking the right lube can help protect most sex toys
from overall damage and increases the sex toy’s lifespan. Using
lube with your sex toy also greatly enhances the sex toy’s
effectiveness and the sex toy user’s overall experience, especially
with proper cleaning.
This guide covers the basics of lube. Please refer to
the lubes and lotions guide for more in-depth information.
Picking the Right
Sex Lube for your Sex Toy
You should always be careful which kind of lube you use
with your sex toy. Using the wrong lube could damage your sex toy
or greatly decrease its lifespan. Water-based lubes can be used
safely with any sex toy. Oil or petroleum-based lubes can damage
certain sex toys, particularly sex toys made from latex.
Silicone-based lubes can be used with any sex toy that is not made
from silicone.
Using Sex Lube
with your Sex Toy
Once you’ve selected a safe lube to use with your sex toy,
you should carefully apply a small bit of lube to the toy, as well
as the body part you intend to use the toy on. If you have a dildo
you want to use for anal penetration, you should apply lube to your
anus. There should be enough lube to solidly coat both surfaces.
Note that depending on which type of lube you use, you might need to
stop briefly to add more if the lube should dry out.
Cleaning Sex Lube
from your Sex Toy
To clean off the lube, you should wipe off the toy and
yourself with warm, soapy water and then dry off with a towel.
Water-based lubes are the easiest to clean off. Other lubes might
prove more difficult to remove or can leave behind a sticky feeling
that some people find unpleasant.

Taking Care of
your Sex Toys
With just a little bit of cleaning, maintenance and proper
care, you and your favorite sex toys can have a long and enjoyable
partnership.
Cleaning and
Maintaining your Sex Toy
Most sex toys are incredibly easy to clean. Just wet a
clean towel in warm, soapy water and wipe the sex toy off, taking
care not to get the control area or battery compartment wet. If you
use your sex toy anally, you must clean it very thoroughly using
antibacterial soap or rubbing alcohol as soon as possible after each
use. There are also special cleaners formulated to safely work with
adult sex toys that you could use instead. Be sure to clean your
sex toy soon after use. Never put off cleaning your sex toy until
the next day.
After cleaning, dry the sex toy with a soft, clean cloth.
If your sex toy is made from Cyberskin, you should apply the special
powder to maintain the sex toy’s unique feeling. After thoroughly
drying your sex toy, you should wrap it in a dry cloth and store
your sex toy in a cool, dry place.
These are the recommended cleaning methods for the most
popular sex toy materials:
Plastic – soap and water, rubbing alcohol, sex toy cleaner
Latex – mild soap and water, sex toy cleaner
Jelly – mild soap and water, sex toy cleaner
Cyberskin – mild soap and water, Cyberskin cleaner, sex toy
cleaner, talcum powder
Silicone – soap and water, sex toy cleaner
Glass – soap and water, sex toy cleaner, rubbing alcohol,
boiling water
Replacing Sex Toy
Batteries
When you wear out your batteries, replacing them is as
simple as a trip to your nearest drug store. Most sex toys take AA
or AAA batteries, but some sex toys take common watch batteries. Be
sure to take note what batteries you need when you remove them from
the sex toys. The batteries on most models can be removed by
unscrewing the base of the sex toys or removing the panel on the
remote control.
Long-term Sex Toy
Storage
Batteries contain highly corrosive chemicals and it’s not
recommended that you leave them inside your sex toy for extended
periods of time. If you don’t plan to use your sex toy for longer
than a week, you should remove the batteries, wrap your sex toy in a
dry towel and store it in a cool, dry place.
